SHENANGO VALLEY – The Inaugural Shenango Valley Fitness Fest & Wellness Expo will be an interactive health & wellness fair with fitness demos that aim to connect the community with organizations and opportunities that offer ways to support and nurture a healthy lifestyle. The Shenango Valley Chamber is presenting the event with Community Health Partnership of Mercer County 11 AM to 4 PM Sunday Aug. 11 in and around Buhl Park Casino, Hermitage.

“At this event, exhibitors will showcase their fitness offerings, health-related products and healthcare services,” said Sherris Moreira, Executive Director of the Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce, adding that Fitness guru Breanna Griffin of Anytime Fitness of Hermitage will be curating special staged fitness demonstrations outside on the casino’s veranda near Lake Julia. “The focus of this event is to raise awareness of a healthy lifestyle and wellbeing – both for individuals and the community as a whole. Plus guests can talk with trainers and healthcare professionals; try out fitness experiences, get health screenings and sample delicious foods!”

The event concept started out as a conversation between the SV Chamber and Mercer County Cancer Coalition, a subsidiary of Community Health Partnership of Mercer County, to find ways to promote healthy lifestyles in Mercer County. “This is a great opportunity to bring together healthcare and health conscious organizations with the community to create a dialogue around the importance of healthy living,” added Kristen Hillebrand, American Cancer Society Health Systems Manager, Northeast Region, who coordinates the coalition. “We’re excited to see what comes out of this first-time event!”

Besides a wellness vendor area inside Buhl Park Casino with health screenings, food and wellness demonstrations, and giveaways, there will also be pop up tents with fitness vendors on the lawn outside of Buhl Park Casino providing opportunities to try out different fitness activities, a kids activity area, plus a curated stage for people to watch interactive demonstrations such as yoga, , and more.

UPMC Health Plan is bringing their screening van; Sharon Regional Medical Center professionals will be providing walks on the Buhl Park fitness trail every hour starting at noon; and Buhl Park will have a food vendor and farmer market area at the event as well. Plus Carried Away Outfitters of Greenville will be providing kayak rides on Lake Julia and bikes for rides through the park. Tam O’Shanter will be providing golf games with prizes and the Shenango Valley Disc Golf Alliance will offer disc golf lessons. Entry to the expo is free with a back-to-school item to be collected by Primary Health Network Charitable Foundation for pediatric patients in need; and $1 without one, with all proceeds going toward students in need.

The event will kick off with a Sunday Runday 5K/10K 9:30 AM Aug. 11 at the Avalon Golf and Country Club at Buhl Park, Hermitage. Though the 5K/10K is a separate fundraiser for the Rose of Sharon Lodge#3 F.O.P. and Primary Health Network Charitable Foundation, it is part of the overall Fitness Fest list of events and is open to the public. Restaurants at The Avalon Golf and Country Club will also be open that day with no member fees.
